Arson Blamed for Denton Boat Fire

Posted: Updated:

DENTON, Md.- Authorities say a Tuesday morning fire that destroyed a boat in Denton was intentionally set.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said the blaze, which occurred at around 3:38 a.m., consumed a 1990 28-foot Checkmate Pleasure Craft boat located on Alternate Route 404 near Butler Road.

It took nine firefighters from the Queen Anne and Hillsboro fire companies approximately 10 minutes to get the fire under control. There were no reported injuries. The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damage to the vessel.

Investigators said the fire originated in the boat's interior and was caused by an incendiary. A further investigation revealed that the boat was stolen from Anne Arundel County, according to officials.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the State Fire Marshal's Upper Eastern Regional Office at (410) 822-7609 or the Arson Hotline at 1-800-492-7529.
