Eastern Shore of Va. Experiences 9-1-1 Emergency Call Issues

Updated:

ACCOMAC, Va.- The Eastern Shore of Virginia 911 Call Center in the town of Accomac began experiencing problems with receiving 9-1-1 calls around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

9-1-1 Director Jeff Flournoy said the issues with the phone lines were due to problems with Verizon.

The call center serves both Accomack and Northampton counties and dispatches calls to the proper emergency service.  While the issue was resolved by around 6 p.m. Thursday, people affected by the outage said they do not like the fact that the problem even occurred.

Carole Vankleef of Parksley summed up the frustration experienced by many when she said, "When you have an emergency and you can't call 9-1-1, then what else do you do other than see your loved ones suffer?"

Anyone still experiencing problems with calling 9-1-1 in Accomack or Northampton counties is advised to call (757) 787-0911 or (757) 824-0911.
