Young Hee KwonSALISBURY, Md.- A 61-year-old Salisbury woman is behind bars following accusations that she left her two grandchildren- ages 1 and 3- home alone.
The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office arrested 61-year-old Young Hee Kwon on the charges of confine unattended child, reckless endangerment and child neglect.
Police said that shortly before 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, a deputy responded to a report of unattended children at a home in the 9000 block of Calvary Circle. Upon arrival, the deputy met with a neighbor who stated that she had seen a 3-year-old child wandering around outside the home wearing only pajamas without any shoes or socks. The neighbor told the deputy that she observed the child was crying and unable to open the door to enter the home. Authorities said that upon helping the 3-year-old inside, a 1-year-old sibling was also discovered inside, also unattended and upset. There were no adults present, according to police.
Police said an investigation into the incident revealed that the grandmother, identified as Kwon, had to leave to run an errand so she locked the children inside the home alone while she was gone.
The investigating deputy obtained a warrant for the arrest of Young, who returned prior to the deputy's arrival for the initial call. That warrant was served the following day and Kwon was taken into custody on the aforementioned charges and ordered held in the Wicomico County Detention Center in lieu of $40,000 bond.
