Amazon Wants to Open Large Warehouse in Del.

MIDDLETOWN, Del. (AP) - Amazon.com wants to open a new warehouse in Delaware that would employ 850 people by the end of next year.

The director of the Delaware Economic Development Office confirmed Friday to The News Journal of Wilmington that the online retailer has applied for state money to help build the warehouse in Middletown. The project could be supported by nearly $7.5 million in taxpayer-funded grants.

Amazon declined to comment when reached by the paper. The company already employs 350 people at its operations in New Castle, but the facility planned for Middletown would be more than five times larger.

The company's applications for grant money are up for approval Dec. 12.
