Remains Found on Maryland/Delaware Line Identified

Posted:

NEWARK, Del. - A years-long case of a missing woman ended this week with a positive identification of remains found just over the Maryland line in Delaware.

Maryland State Police say a Brittany N. Peart, 21, of Manor Road in Elkton, was reported missing by her mother in September 2008. Police say Peart's remains were found by two hunters between Frenchtown and McDaniel Roads on December 4.  A Delaware State Police Homicide Unit sergeant who had previously assisted MSP with the woman's disappearance alerted investigators about the remains.

According to police, doctors in the first state used dental records. An autopsy is next to determine the matter of death.

As recently as July 2011, MSP says troopers searched for Peart along the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal.

Anyone with information concerning Brittney Peart is urged to contact Maryland State Police at the North East Barrack, at 410-996-7800 or at the Cold Case Unit at 410-953-8211.
