Update: Man Charged in O.C. Car Crash That Injured Infant

OCEAN CITY, Md.- An 18-month-old infant was critically injured in a car crash that occurred Friday in Ocean City.

Ocean City police said the crash happened near the intersection of 142nd Street and Coastal Highway shortly after noon on Friday. According to investigators, a pickup, driven by 47-year-old Andre James Kaczynski of Ocean Pines, was speeding on Coastal Highway when it rear-ended a car that was stopped at a red light.

The car that was struck was occupied by a driver and the infant, who was seated in the backseat of the vehicle. A Maryland State Police helicopter flew the infant to the Johns Hopkins Shock Trauma Pediatric Center where she remains in critical condition.

Both drivers were taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Kacyznski was treated and released from the hospital.

Police said a search of the pickup truck revealed an amount of PCP, and field sobriety tests were given to Kaczynski, who tested positive for being under the influence of of the drug.

Kaczynski has been charged with possession and driving under the influence of drugs and is being held in the Worcester County Jail on $100,000 bond.
