Bozman, Md. - On Christmas day, a 30-year-old horse found herself stuck in a full swimming pool. The horse, named Katie, frequently escapes from her pen, but this time she got herself in over her head. Luckily, a neighbor saw the struggling horse and called for help.
Chelsea Faulkner and her father were among the first to arrive on the scene.
"We saw the horses nose sticking up out of the top of the water bobbing up and down, and blood rushing out of her mouth, she was trembling really hard so I immediately figured we had to hurry up and get her to safety quickly," said Faulkner.
The St. Michael Fire Department along with other volunteers were able to bring Katie to safety. The owner relinquished ownership of Katie to the Country Comfort Farm off of St. Michael's road.
"She's really happy, I think she was really relieved. Christmas night she was with other animals. She was sore, tired and exhausted but every time I would come out to the barn there was little children giving her attention, rubbing on her and giving her love," said Faulkner.
Due to the expensive nature of caring for a horse, Faulkner and Country Comfort Farm is hoping to raise money to help with Katie's veterinary care.
