3 Other GOP Hopefuls Join Perry's Suit in Va.

Posted:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP)- Three other Republican presidential hopefuls have joined Texas Gov. Rick Perry's lawsuit challenging Virginia's ballot access law.

U.S. District Judge John Gibney on Wednesday granted a motion by Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman Jr. and Rick Santorum to intervene in the lawsuit.

Perry filed the lawsuit after failing to obtain enough signatures of registered voters to get on Virginia's GOP presidential primary ballot. Gingrich also failed to qualify, leaving Mitt Romney and Ron Paul as the only candidates in Virginia's March 6 primary. Huntsman and Santorum did not submit any petitions.

Perry's lawsuit claims the state's requirement of 10,000 signatures, including at least 400 from each of the state's 11 congressional districts, is unconstitutional. A hearing on Perry's request for a preliminary injunction is set for Jan. 13.
