LAUREL, Del.- A bill that would raise the age students must be enrolled in school from 16 to 18 in Delaware was tabled on Wednesday.
Some legislators had concerns about some exemptions in the bill.
Rich Gaskill, assistant principal at Laurel High School, said he has other concerns about the implications of this bill.
"I'm afraid that what we'll do is change the problem. Instead of being a dropout problem, it'll be a truancy problem," Gaskill said. "I don't think you can legislate motivation and I think that's partly what this legislation is trying to do."
An aide to Rep. Debra Heffernan, HB 244's sponsor, said they now plan to revise the bill before March.
