DSU's Oliver, Tate Honored by MEAC

Greensboro, N.C. (Jan. 30, 2012) --- Delaware State University forward Marques Oliver (jr., Durham, N.C.) and guard Tahj Tate (fr., Easley, S.C.) have been recognized by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) for their play last week.

Oliver was named MEAC Defensive Player of Week after collecting 11 blocks, five steals and 16 rebounds in victories over Florida A&M and North Carolina Central last week. He has 19 blocks in the last four games, including a school record-tying eight in the Florida A&M contest on Jan. 23.

For the season, Oliver is third in the MEAC in blocks (2.2 pg) and eighth in rebounding (7.2 pg).
Tate earned his second MEAC Rookie-of-the-Week award after totaling 39 points last week.

He scored a team-high 20 points, highlighted by 7-for-7 shooting at the free throw line, in the Hornets' 76-70 win over North Carolina Central last Saturday (Jan. 28). Tate was also named MEAC Rookie-of-the-Week on Nov. 28. He currently ranks fifth in the MEAC in scoring at 15.5 points per game, tops among first-year league players.

Delaware State (6-11; 3-3 MEAC) seeks its third straight win against streaking North Carolina A&T this evening. The Aggies have won their last five games to improve to 10-12 overall and 5-2 in the MEAC.
