LEWES, Del.- Delaware State Police say precautionary measures had to be taken at Cape Henlopen High School after a 15-year-old student got into a fight and allegedly threatened to kill everyone at the school.
Police said the incident occurred at approximately 2:05 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, as the school day was ending. Teachers were alerted to a large fight in one of the second floor hallways. Police said that when administrators arrived, they were able to break up one of the fights, but the aforementioned 15-year-old student continued to be combative.
Authorities said the student continued to fight with the teachers as they were trying to stop him from striking other students. Police said the student then made threats toward the teachers and students and stated that he was going to shoot up and kill everyone at the school.
Troopers responded to the school where they took the 15-year-old into custody. He was charged with six counts of terroristic threatening, six counts of offensive touching, six counts of menacing and disorderly conduct. He was later arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and ordered held in the Stevenson House Detention Center in Milford on $12,500 secured bail.
Police said that as a precautionary measure and at the request of the Cape Henlopen School District, troopers were present at the high school on Friday morning would be there throughout the school day to ensure the safety of the students and teachers due to the threats that the student made.
As a result of the incident, Cape Henlopen School District Superintendent Kevin E. Carson issued the following statement:
"Yesterday at CHHS as a result of an altercation between three students at the close of school an arrest was made. Threats were made by a student during this incident and then into the night on social media. As a precautionary measure the school district administration requested additional police presence today. No incidents have occurred today and the building is operating on as much of a normal schedule as possible. Additional administrative personnel will be present in the building through out the day. The Cape Henlopen School District will continue to ensure a safe school environment for all of our students and staff.
"In an unrelated event this morning at CHHS, a student had a medical condition which necessitated an ambulance being called for transport to the hospital. We wish the student a speedy recovery.
As always we appreciate your support of the Cape Henlopen School District."
