DSU Ready for Norfolk St.

DOVER, Del. – The Delaware State University women's basketball team returns to Memorial Hall Saturday after a 1-1 road trip to North Carolina as they host Norfolk State at 5 p.m.

The Lady Hornets are currently 4-16 on the year and 1-6 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play.

In their last game, sophomore Tasia Bristow recorded the first double double of her career with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Tierra Hawkins collected 15 points and nine rebounds but it wasn't enough as DSU was outscored, 9-3, in the final two minutes en route to a 49-57 loss at North Carolina A&T Monday evening. Bristow bested a previous career-high of six rebounds, set Saturday at NCCU. The Lady Hornets led at halftime, 30-28, and with 10 minutes remaining in the game, but couldn't keep up with the Lady Aggies in the waning minutes of the contest. In the final five minutes, NCAT made eight free throws, including four from Amber Calvin, compared to just two for Del State. Additionally, the Lady Aggies converted 12 points off of DSU turnovers in the second half while the Lady Hornets made just four.

Norfolk State is 8-12 overall and 3-6 in the MEAC.  The Spartans are on a four-game losing streak and have lost five of their last six games.  In their game on Monday, Coppin State rallied from a nine-point second half deficit and overcame a poor free throw shooting effort in a 61-58 victory over Norfolk State women's basketball team in Norfolk. Sophomore Rachel Gordon had another solid game, leading the way with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting and a career-high 21 rebounds, two days after posting her previous career high of 19 boards against Morgan State. Gordon tied the Division I record for rebounds in a game set by Lawanda Newman on March 3, 2003 against North Carolina A&T.

DSU leads the all-time series over NSU, 21-12 and have won 11 straight contests against the Spartans. The last NSU win in the series came in a 58-55 victory on February 26, 2005. This is the first of two regular season games between the two teams. They will match up again on February 18 in Norfolk.
