Hornets Seek Fifth Straight Win in MEAC Play

Dover, DE - The streaking Hornets welcome defending MEAC champ Hampton University to Memorial Hall. Delaware State (8-11; 5-3 MEAC) brings a four-game win streak into the contest. The Hornets are coming off a 67-50 victory MEAC leader Norfolk State on Saturday. Playing without injured starters Tahj Tate and Kendall Gray, DSU held Norfolk State to one point in the first 8:44 of the contest and never looked back.

Freshman guard Amere May, starting for Tate, led four Hornets in double figures with 14 points. Jay Threatt contributed 13 points, six assists and six steals, while Marques Oliver (4-6 FGs) and Tyshawn Bell (four 3-pointers) added 12 points each for the Hornets. Hampton (8-14; 4-5 MEAC) has won two of its last three games, including a 68-63 victory over Morgan State in its most recent outing on Jan. 30. Christopher Tolson was high scorer for the Pirates with 19 points, while Darrion Pellum, the MEAC's leading scorer, added 15 points.                   

DSU VS. HAMPTON SERIES HISTORY (DSU leads 22-20)  
Hampton has won the last three meetings, although Delaware State holds a 22-20 lead in the series. The Pirates swept last year's meetings, winning 70-66 in overtime at home and 71-64 at DSU. Hampton's Darrion Pellum averaged 20.5 points vs. the Hornets last season, including a 28-point performance in the first meeting (at HU). Delaware State's Casey Walker averaged 19.5 points in the two meetings last season, including a 25-point effort in the first contest at Hampton. DSU's last win in the series was on Jan. 30, 2010 at Delaware State (58-56). The Hornets and Pirates are scheduled to meet again on Feb. 20 in Hampton, Va.
