FRUITLAND, Md.- Authorities say a 14-year-old girl is accused of taking a car and then striking a 12-year-old with it in Fruitland.

The incident happened at around 12:30 p.m., Feb. 4, on South Brown Street where deputies with the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a pedestrian being struck by a car.

Police said that during the investigation a deputy learned that a 14-year-old Fruitland girl took her father's car without permission and went for a drive in the adjacent area.

It was during the drive that the teen struck the 12-year-old victim in the 4000 block of South Brown Street, according to police.

The deputy arrested the 14-year-old driver for driving without a license and theft of the vehicle.

The teen is being held at the Department of Juvenile Services in the Lower Eastern Shore Children's Center pending court adjudication.

The struck juvenile was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury for treatment of minor injuries and released.
