MARDELA SPRINGS, Md.- Authorities have ruled as accidental a late Tuesday afternoon fire that left a Mardela Springs home in ruins.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said the blaze broke out shortly after 5 p.m. at a two-story single family home located at 24990 Cross Road.

It took 40 firefighters from the Mardela Springs, Sharptown and Hebron fire companies less than an hour to get the fire under control.

There were no injuries reported. The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to the structure and another $50,000 in damage to its contents.

Investigators determined the fire started in a second floor bedroom when combustibles came into contact with a lamp.

The Red Cross is assisting the home's displaced occupants.
