DOVER, Del. (AP) - Attorney General Beau Biden is asking the Delaware legislature's budget committee for $1 million more for his agency than is recommended in Gov. Jack Markell's proposed budget.
Biden says his office needs an additional $638,000 for a variety of needs, including replacing aging computers, hiring an in-house forensic accountant, replacing expiring federal grants for social workers, and paying the true cost of extraditions and expert witness fees.
That figure includes an additional $30,000 to defend Delaware's share of funding from the nationwide tobacco settlement agreement, and $60,000 to train thousands more Delawareans on how to prevent child abuse.
Biden also is asking for an additional $428,000 in general funds that are passed through the attorney general's office to community groups operating domestic violence shelters.
