EASTON, Md.- Authorities are investigating a Friday morning crash in Easton that left one person dead and four others injured.

Easton police said the crash occurred at around 10:39 a.m. in the westbound lane of Ocean Gateway (Route 50) midway between Goldsborough Street and Chapel Road.

According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that 52-year-old Michael Robert McCauley of Greensboro was operating a Ford F-150 pickup truck, and traveling east on Ocean Gateway. Investigators said that meantime, a Toyota Camry, operated by 42-year-old Kevin James Hall of Berlin, was traveling westbound.

Police said that is when McCauley's F-150 drove off the roadway, across the grass median and collided with the front driver's side of the Toyota Camry.

McCauley and his 15-year-old son were transported to the Memorial Hospital at Easton for treatment of minor injuries.

Hall was pronounced dead on the scene. A female passenger, identified as 37-year-old Ginger Massey Hall of Berlin, was flown by Maryland State Police to the University of Maryland-Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

An additional passenger, an 8-year-old boy, was flown by Maryland State Police to the John Hopkins Pediatric Unit.

Charges are pending until the conclusion of the investigation, according to police.

The westbound lanes of Ocean Gateway remained closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
