SALISBURY, Md. - Michael Oher of the Baltimore Ravens visited children and parents at Prince Street Elementary in Salisbury on Friday. Oher was there to sign and promote his book "I Beat the Odds."
Oher spoke to the children about his struggles growing up. He told students they di not have to be exactly like him to be successful; all they need is a drive in themselves.
"I was in their shoes so just to let them know you can do whatever you want," he said. "I had the passion and determination to succeed, to get where I wanted to go and just stay with it. You don't have to be taken in by a rich family to succeed you can do it on your own."
Children and parents lined up outside to get entrance into Prince Street Elementary to see Oher speak.
Adam Smulin from Nanticoke said, "When he was a kid everyone knows he was homeless. He wrote books about himself and his childhood and look at him now: he plays in the league and he's a good football player."
Oher was at the school earlier in the day to speak with the kids about his life and stayed for a later event to speak to Salisbury Football players and parents.
Oher became famous after the movie "The Blind Side" came out. The movie was about his life journey to the NFL.
