LAUREL, Del.- Authorities say a special education teacher at North Laurel Elementary School is facing two counts each of endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful imprisonment.
Laurel police said 61-year-old Nyazina Custis of Bivalve, Md., tied two fourth-grade students' hands behind their backs last Tuesday afternoon after the students failed to follow instructions. A second teacher who witnessed the incident requested that the students be untied and notified their supervisor.
Custis turned herself to police on Friday and was charged with the aforementioned offenses. She was released on unsecured bond. She has been suspended from work pending the outcome of the investigation.
