DSU's Tate Collects Third MEAC Rooke-of-the-Week Award

DOVER, Del.- Delaware State University guard Tahj Tate (fr., Easley, S.C.) has been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie-of-the-Week for the third time this season.

Tate earned his latest honor after averaging 19.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals in Hornet wins over Hampton and Coppin State last week. His week was highlighted by a 22-point performance in DSU's 84-81 come-from-behind win over Coppin State on Saturday. He scored 18 points in the second half of the game.

Tate was also named MEAC Rookie-of-the-Week on Nov. 28 and Jan. 30. For the season, he is fifth in the MEAC in scoring at 15.9 points per-game, tops among league first year players. In addition, he's ninth in the conference in free throw percentage (.778), 12th in steals (1.4 pg) and 14th in assists (2.9 pg).

Delaware State freshman Amere May (Jan. 2) and Tyshawn Bell (Feb. 6) have also earned MEAC Rookie-of-the Week honors this season.

DSU's Casey Walker (so., Broadnax, Va.) and Jay Threatt (sr., Richmond, Va.) were listed the MEAC's "Other Top Performers" last week.

Walker averaged 20 points in two games, including a season-high 24 points vs. Coppin State, last week. He tied his career-high with six three-point field goals (6-10) in the contest.

Threatt recorded back-to-back "double-doubles" last week. He had 12 points and 10 assists in the Hornets' 77-69 win over Hampton and followed that with an 11-point, 10-assist performance vs. Coppin State.
