



DOVER, Del. - Wesley College's football team held its annual end-of-season banquet on Sunday afternoon at the Duncan Center where it announced all of the team award winners from the 2011 season. Head Coach Mike Drass and his coaching staff also recognized the 14-member senior class whose 46-6 record over the last four years is tied for the most wins in program history and six players who received All-America and All-Region honors.
Seniors Shane McSweeny and Chris Mayes shared the Most Valuable Player award. It is the second-straight year that Mayes received the honor while McSweeny also earned the award in 2009.
The Offensive Player of the Year award also went to a pair of seniors in tight end Sean McAndrew and offensive tackle James Buettner. McAndrew is also a second-time recipient of the honor after doing so in 2009.
For the first time in program history, three players shared the Defensive Player of the year honor. This season's honorees were seniors Paul Gilstrop (DT), Mike Asiedu (LB) and Jeff Morgan (LB). Asiedu also received the recognition in 2009 and 2010 while Morgan also shared the award in 2010.
A business administration major, cornerback Trevor Kling received the Senior Scholar-Athlete award.
Devin Hardy and Tim Putman shared the 'Ken Pippin Lineman of the Year' Award while Dakevis Howard and Matt Barile shared the Third Annual 'Naselli Award' which goes to the team's best skill player.
The Most Improved Defensive Player went to linebacker Kirk Brooks as OT Terren Aldridge and running back Askia Jahad shared the Most Improved Player award on the offensive side of the ball.
Return man and wide receiver Jeremiah Howe took home the Special Teams Player of the Year honor while Steven Koudossou and Sosthene Kapepula received the offensive and defensive Rookie of the Year awards, respectively.
