ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP)- Gov. Martin O'Malley says he still needs the votes of a couple of lawmakers to pass a bill legalizing gay marriage.
O'Malley decided to sponsor the measure after it failed to garner enough support in the House of Delegates last year.
After speaking to hundreds of gay marriage advocates who rallied in outside the statehouse Monday night, O'Malley told reporters that he still looking for support in the General Assembly and that Republican votes could be key to passing the same-sex union bill.
Last week members of the House Judiciary and Health and Government Operations Committees heard more than 10 hours of testimony on the bill.
