MILLVILLE, Del.- Authorities say one person suffered smoke inhalation as the result of a fire that broke out at a home in Millville on Tuesday morning.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office said the blaze occurred at around 6:21 a.m. at a home located on the 35000 block of Atlantic Avenue.
The Millville Fire Department, assisted by the Bethany Beach and Roxana fire departments, responded to the scene. Upon arrival they encountered smoke showing.
The home was occupied at the time of the fire. One victim was transported to Beebe Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation. The home was not equipped with working smoke detectors, according to officials. Damages have been estimated at $8,500.
Investigators have determined that the fire originated in the kitchen and was caused by an unattended candle igniting combustible materials.
