SELBYVLLE, Del.- Authorities are blaming careless smoking for a Wednesday night fire that caused thousands of dollars in damage to a Selbyville home.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office said the fire erupted at around 11:42 p.m., at a home located on the unit block of West Second Street. The Selbyville, Frankford and Roxana fire departments responded to fight the fire.
Investigators said the home's occupant was carelessly smoking in the living room when the house went ablaze. The damage to the home was estimated at $30,000. The home was not equipped with working smoke detectors, according to officials.
The victim was taken to Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md., for treatment of minor smoke inhalation.
