DOVER, Del. (AP)- Two Delaware charter schools have won state approval to remain open for another five years.
The state education secretary's office says the Board of Education approved the extensions Thursday for Prestige Academy in Wilmington and Academy of Dover.
Prestige Academy became Delaware's first all-boys, tuition-free charter school in 2008. It serves middle school students from low-income and minority families.
The Academy of Dover's principal, Noel Rodriguez, says the school serves 256 students from kindergarten to fourth grade. Rodriguez says the Academy of Dover was considered a failing school less than four years ago and required a major financial and academic turnaround to win approval to stay open.
