CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - There's a busy day ahead in the trial of a former University of Virginia lacrosse player accused of killing his ex-girlfriend.
A rare Saturday session is scheduled in Charlottesville in the first-degree murder trial of George Huguely V of Chevy Chase, Md. The 24-year-old defendant is charged in the May 2010 killing of 22-year-old Yeardley Love.
The suburban Baltimore woman's body was found in the bedroom of her apartment. Prosecutors say Huguely slammed her head against the wall, then left her to die.
Huguely's attorneys say her death was a tragic accident and may have been related in part to alcohol and a prescription drug found in her system.
Huguely has pleaded innocent. If convicted of the most severe murder charge, the defendant could be sentenced to life in prison.
