WBOC-TV 16, Delmarvas News Leader, FOX 21 - Hawkins Earns ACC Honor in Back to Back Weeks

GREENSBORO, N.C.- Junior Tianna Hawkins of the sixth-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (23-4, 10-4 ACC) was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Player of the Week for the second straight week the league announced Monday.

In the Terrapins' two wins over the week, Hawkins shot over 77 percent from the field, averaged 22.5 points per game and 11.5 boards per game. Against No. 5 Duke, she scored 19 points and had nine rebounds - all in the second half and all offensive. With 46 seconds left and the Terps down by one, Hawkins grabbed an offensive board and got the put-back for a 1-point Maryland lead. She was fouled and made the free throw to give the Terps a 61-59 advantage. With 14 seconds to go and the game tied again, Hawkins grabbed another offensive board and laid one in for the 63-61 win.

At Virginia, Hawkins went 12-13 from the field for a career-high 26 points against the league's top defense. Her season field goal percentage of 65 percent leads the country. She leads the league in rebounding with 9.7 per ACC game and is seventh in scoring with 15.0 points per conference game.

Over the past five games, Hawkins has averaged 20.0 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. She's shot 75 percent from the field and had two double-doubles.

This is the junior's second weekly honor from the conference after being named Player of the Week last week. The USBWA also named her it's National Player of the Week last week.

Next, the Terrapins will play host to North Carolina (19-8, 9-5) Friday, Feb. 24 at 8:30 p.m. The Terps will honor seniors Anjale Barrett, Lynetta Kizer and Kim Rodgers prior to tip-off.
