ROANOKE, Va. (AP)- A Roanoke County native was one of two U.S. troops fatally shot during a protest over the burning of Qurans on a U.S.
Twenty-two-year-old Cpl. T.J. Conrad was killed in Afghanistan on Thursday.
Conrad's father, Tim Conrad, told the newspaper that a man wearing Afghan military or police fatigues ambushed his son.
T.J. Conrad leaves behind a wife and 7-month-old son. His family said they were traveling today to Dover Air Force Base to receive the body after a ceremony.
Tim Conrad said his son had been in the Army for about four years, including time in the reserves. He was set to be promoted to sergeant on March 1.
