RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A national nonprofit that promotes government transparency is honoring 14 public sector websites in Virginia.
The Alexandria-based Sunshine Review announced its 2012 Sunny Awards prior to Sunshine Week, which began Sunday. The period recognizes strides toward open government.
Virginia's award winners include public school districts in Fairfax, Loudon and Prince William counties; the cities of Arlington, Hampton, Richmond and Virginia Beach, and Williamsburg-James City County.
The other winners are Chesterfield, Gloucester, Mathews and York counties, and the cities of Richmond and Virginia Beach.
Editors at the Sunshine Review evaluated more than 6,000 government websites and graded each on a 10-point transparency scale.
