Va. Woman Sentenced for Beheading Piglet, B&E

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) - A Portsmouth woman who admitted beheading a piglet will spend more than 60 days in jail.

Twenty-two-year-old Ashley Fowler received a 16-year sentence Tuesday in Chesapeake Circuit Court. But Judge Marjorie T. Arrington suspended all but 90 days and gave Fowler credit for 28 days served. The remainder of the sentence will be served on weekends.

Fowler pleaded guilty in November 2011 to two counts of killing or maiming livestock and one unrelated count of breaking and entering.

She was arrested in February 2011 after the piglet's owner reported she had found its head on her front porch. The woman found another piglet in a barn that had been stabbed. That piglet was euthanized.

Both piglets belonged to the woman's son.
