St. Patrick's Day DUI Checkpoint Leads to Multiple Arrests in Wicomico Co.

SALISBURY, Md.- Police in Wicomico County say a St. Patrick's Day sobriety checkpoint led to the arrests of five people for DUI.

Beginning at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, March 17, the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office coordinated a multijurisdictional DUI enforcement initiative. Law enforcement personnel conducted a sobriety checkpoint, along with dedicated patrol units seeking drunk drivers. During the operation, 427 vehicles passed through the checkpoint at South Salisbury Boulevard south of Dogwood Drive in Salisbury. An additional 56 vehicles were stopped by the roving units.

The following people were arrested for DUI:

  • Aaron Lee Walker, 21, of Salisbury
  • William Drew Bevard, 20, of Newark, Md.
  • Arlene Hughes, 55, of Salisbury
  • William Owens, 46, of Inman, S.C.
  • Valerie C. Angstadt, 22, of Salisbury

In addition to the DUI arrests, 42-year-old Jean R. Renelus of Salisbury was charged with driving while suspended and 46-year-old Mario Martin Sanchez-Hernandez of Salisbury was charged with driving without a license. 

Police also issued numerous warnings and citations for various traffic offenses.

In addition to the Sheriff's Office, the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack, Salisbury Police Department, Fruitland Police Department and Maryland Natural Resources Police participated in the operation.
