Posted:

MADISON, Va. (AP) - A Newport News man charged with killing three relatives will be evaluated to determine whether he's competent to stand trial.

The Culpeper Star-Exponent (http://bit.ly/HfVdn0 ) reports that a judge ordered the evaluation of Rashad Matthew Riddick during a hearing Wednesday in Madison County Circuit Court.

The evaluation will be conducted at the Central Virginia Regional Jail, where Riddick is being held.

Riddick is charged with three counts of capital murder in the fatal shootings of his uncle, his aunt and his cousin.

The victims' bodies were found in February 2011 at the uncle's farm in eastern Madison County. Riddick was arrested without incident the next day at a hotel in the Newport News area.

The next hearing is set for May 30.
