SU Men's Tennis advances to CAC Semifinals

SALISBURY, MD – The Salisbury University men's tennis team opened play in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament with a convincing 9-0 win against Stevenson University at the SU Indoor Tennis Center on Sunday.

In what will most likely be their final home match, all four of the Salisbury seniors, Daniel Barnas, Arthur Jackson, Curtis Quandt and Justin Smith, were in the starting lineup, with each of the four earning a pair of victories.

The senior pair of Jackson and Smith opened the match with a quick 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles. Barnas and freshman Daniel Albers made it 2-0 with an 8-4 win at No. 1 followed shortly by Quandt and freshman Nick Mancuso coming up with an 8-1 win at No. 3 to round out the Salisbury doubles sweep.

Barnas closed out a 6-1, 6-0 singles victory at No. 1, just moments before Quandt earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2, sealing the Salisbury win and a trip to the CAC semifinals. Jackson was good for a 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 win at No. 4 while Smith prevailed 6-3, 4-6, 10-1 at No. 3.

Salisbury's two remaining points came from sophomore Shane Gunther, with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5, and classmate Paul Berryman, with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6.

With the win, Salisbury advances to the CAC semifinals on Tuesday at St. Mary's (Md.) College.
