PRIME HOOK, Del. - The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service will put out a "comprehensive conservation" plan for the Prime Hook beach community this May.
A debate has been brewing for years about the dunes, after a storm damaged them almost more than a decade ago. The road in and out has flooded countless times, destroying some homes in the process.
Residents tell WBOC the community is at the mercy of mother nature.
"What we need is to be made whole," said Cindy Miller. "We've been quite damaged and it would be very nice to be made whole in some way."
"Our marshes have not been keeping up with sea level rise," added Michael Stroeh. "They've degraded over time."
Delaware Department of Resources and Environmental Control spokesman Tony Pratt said the situation at Prime Hook is dire.
Pratt said,"It's frustrating when something that seems so seemingly easy to resolve lingers for so long."
After the plan is released, officials will hold public hearings. This process is set to be done by the end of 2012.
