POCOMOKE CITY, Md.- Officials are considering an ordinance on certain indoor furnishings placed on outdoor patios and porches.
The Pocomoke City manager tells WBOC certain types of upholstery can be combustible and pose a safety hazard, like metal or cushions.
Some residents are unhappy with the idea.
"We should be able to buy and put on our porch whatever we want," said Sharon Press of Pocomoke City.
Neighboring Salisbury introduced similar legislation in 1999. Salisbury's ordinance states, "The furniture, furnishings, appliances or decorations customarily associated with the interior portion of residential dwellings shall not be placed on an open porch or the front yard."
A draft is expected to be introduced on the matter at the next Pocomoke City Council meeting in June.
