GEORGETOWN, Del.- Sasha Hudson lives for sports, basketball in particular. On Friday, Hudson made his final appearance as sports anchor on Sussex Central High School's television show.
Hudson, a student at the Howard T. Ennis School, has cognitive disabilities. For nearly three years, he's dished out basketball details on SCTV-- and signed off with his signature line: "Just remember what I always say-- Be safe, be respectful and be responsible!"
Sussex Central broadcast instructor Jeff Gartman says Hudson's teachers approached him about Hudson chipping in.
"My first though was, 'OK, we'll do this kid a favor,'" Gartman said. "He came in and did his first report. Instantly I realized that he was doing something for us, he was doing us a favor for our show. He was doing the school a favor."
Other students in the class agree.
"He's so much fun, he's a great kid and he's always laughing and smiling and trying to give us some kind of promo for sports or the news," senior Tricia Harrington said.
Eighteen-year-old Hudson will continue at the Howard T. Ennis school for the next three years, as he's trained for employment. But he won't forget his time on SCTV.
In Hudson's words, "Over and out."
