Delaware River Reservoir Pact Extended

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Officials in four states have signed off on a 1-year extension of an agreement on how to manage the vast stores of water in New York City's reservoirs along the Delaware River.

The pact is intended to protect fish habitat, mitigate flooding and preserve the city's ability to provide adequate water to more than nine million people.

Conservation officials use advanced computer modeling to help them decide when it is safe to release water from the reservoirs into the river without risking the public water supply.

New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware are all parties to the deal.
