CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (AP) - Daniel Kassouf singled in two runs in a five-run second inning and Appalachian State held on to beat Virginia 6-5 on Sunday, moving the Mountaineers into the Charlottesville Regional championship.

Seth Grant (7-3) allowed five runs in six innings and relievers Ryne Frankoff and Nathan Hyatt made it hold up as Appalachian State (41-16) set a school record for victories in a season.

Virginia (39-18-1) moved into a Sunday night elimination game against Oklahoma. The Cavaliers scored three in the fourth and single runs in the sixth and seventh, but stranded 12 baserunners.

The Mountaineers got a run in the first and made it 6-0 in the second. The first scored on a throwing error before Noah Holmes singled one home and Kassouf followed an intentional walk to load the bases with a single. A sacrifice fly made it 6-0.

Artie Lewicki (4-3) allowed nine hits and all six runs in just 4 2-3 innings for Virginia.
