Police ID Bicyclist Killed in Dover Crash

DOVER, Del.- Delaware State Police have released the name of a bicyclist struck and killed by a car Monday morning on U.S. Route 13 north of Dover.

The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Sonja D. Myricks of Dover.

Troopers said the accident occurred shortly after 4 a.m. Monday, as 63-year-old Frank Spencer of Smyrna was operating a 2000 Ford Expedition in the right lane of southbound Route 13, south of Moffit Drive. According to police, Myricks was operating a bicycle northbound in the southbound right lane when the Expedition struck her.  She was thrown from the bicycle and pronounced dead at the scene. 

Police said Spencer, who was properly restrained, was able to bring his vehicle to a stop on the side of the road.  He was not injured in the crash. 

The roadway was closed for two hours as the crash was investigated and cleared. The accident remains under investigation.
