HAYTER'S GAP, Va. (AP) - A new 14-mile walking trail in southwest Virginia will be dedicated next week.
The Brumley Mountain Trail is open to the public now. The dedication will be held June 11.
The trail runs from Hidden Valley Lake to state Route 80 along the spine of Clinch Mountain. It provides access a unique rock formation at the mountain's top known as the Channels.
Claiborne Woodall with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation says that the trail provides a corridor through the largest unfragmented forest in southwest Virginia.
Woodall says the department is seeking funding to convert an old fire tower on top of the mountain into an observation platform.
