Timothy Xavier Fitzgerald
OCEAN PINES, Md.- An 18-year-old Ocean Pines man is facing charges following accusations that he used a BB gun to shoot out the windows of cars traveling on Route 90 in Worcester County.
Timothy Xavier Fitzgerald was issued a criminal summons Wednesday charging him with two counts of malicious destruction of property- $500 and two counts of reckless endangerment.
According to the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation, the charges stem from two incidents that occurred on May 2. On that date, the Maryland State Police- Berlin Barrack received a complaint from a motorist who stated that while she was traveling eastbound on Route 90 east of Route 589, the rear window of her 2009 Ford Explorer was broken by an unknown object.
Shortly after receiving the initial complaint, MSP received a call from a second motorist, who stated that in the same area of Route 90 the passenger side window of her 2006 Honda Civic was broken by an unknown object.
State troopers, the Worcester County Sheriff's Office and the Ocean Pines Police Department conducted checks in the area but were unable to locate any suspects. Detectives from the WCBI were then asked to investigate the case.
Authorities said that during the investigation, detectives discovered that Fitzgerald was responsible for breaking the windows. Police said a detective contacted Fitzgerald and questioned him regarding his involvement in the case, at which time Fitzgerald acknowledged that he was the one who had shot out the windows of the vehicles using a CO2-powered BB pistol.
As a result of the investigation, Fitzgerald was charged with the aforementioned offenses.
