Bill Aims to Curb Cyberbullying in Del.

Updated:

FREDERICA, Del.- Delaware lawmakers are hoping Senate Bill 193 will curb online bullying.

Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden said social networking has erased the boundary between the schoolyard and home. The state will soon back school districts if they go after students who bully online.

Lake Forest School District Superintendent Dr. Dan Curry said that while students may be using technology to bully others, he is using technology to catch them.

"We have taken phones when we believe there's evidence and there's probably some question about whether you can do that or not," he said.

However, the state says school officials can confiscate student phones and some parents say if the purpose of doing that is to protect their children, then it should be done.

"Nobody likes big brother watching them, but you know they're trying to do the right thing for the kids and the schools," said Danica Zigler.
