Posted: Updated:

FRANKFORD, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating a crash involving a motorcycle and a bicycle that occurred Saturday night in the Pepper Ridge Mobile Home Park in Frankford.

According to police, 40-year-old Eduardo R. Canseco of Frankford was traveling northbound on Pine Cone Lane while operating a 2003 Honda motorcycle, when he struck the rear of a bicycle traveling directly in front of him. Police said the bicycle was being operated by 7-year-old Salma Cruz, who was ejected from the bike and landed in the roadway. They say Cruz was then run over by the motorcycle.

Troopers said Canseco initially stopped at the scene of the crash but then fled to a home on the 30000 block of Lively Drive, where he was later apprehended by responding officers.

According to police, Salma Cruz was flown to the A.I. DuPont Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and released.

Canseco was not injured in the crash, according to police. He was cited with one count each of driving under the influence of alcohol, second-degree vehicular assault, failure to report a crash and failure to render aid at a crash involving injury.

Canseco was ordered held in the Sussex Correctional Institution for lack of $1,700 secured bail.
