SALISBURY, Md.- A Salisbury man is facing assault and related charges after police say he used a knife to attack someone who tried to stop him from driving away drunk from a party in Pittsville.

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office said a deputy responded to a reported stabbing on the 9000 block of Guy Ward Road in Pittsville at around 10:34 p.m. Saturday. Authorities said 19-year-old William Smith-Lake was at a party and tried to drive away while extremely intoxicated.

According to police, when another person tried to prevent Smith-Lake from driving, he became enraged, pulled out a knife, and cut the person's hand. Police said other partygoers were holding Smith-Lake on the ground when police arrived.

Police arrested Smith-Lake on charges of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon and reckless endangerment. He is being held in the Wicomico County Detention Center in lieu of $125,000 bond.
