MILLVILLE, Del.- Delaware State Police say a 74-year-old man suffered a head injury when the bicycle he was riding collided with a van in Millville on Thursday afternoon.

According to police, the incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. as 38-year-old Jose Hernandez-Sanchez of Salisbury, Md., was operating a Chevrolet Savannah van eastbound on SR26 in Millville preparing to turn right onto SR17. Police said that just ahead of the van was a bicyclist traveling in the same direction and also turning right. Investigators said that as the van began to make the turn, the bicyclist started southbound on SR17 and then made a sudden left turn as to continue traveling east on SR26.  The bicyclist then pulled into the path of the van and was struck, police said.

Troopers said 74-year-old Mohammad Yasaeen of Millville, who was operating the bicycle, was thrown to the ground and sustained a head injury.  He was removed from the scene by DSP helicopter and flown to Christiana Hospital where he was admitted.

Police said Hernandez-Sanchez and his 24-year-old passenger were not injured in the crash.

Traffic at the intersection was impacted for approximately an hour as the crash was investigated and cleared.
