SALISBURY, Md. (WBOC/AP)- Thousands of people are expected to turn out for an annual festival celebrating the Delmarva region's poultry industry.
The 63rd Delmarva Chicken Festival will be held Friday and Saturday at The Centre at Salisbury mall located at 2300 N. Salisbury Blvd. in Salisbury.
The highlight is a 10-foot frying pan with an 8-foot handle. The pan weighs 650 pounds, holds 160 gallons of oil and can fry up to 800 chicken quarters at a time. At last year's event in Georgetown, Del., organizers said more than 2,000 chickens were fried in the pan.
The event will also feature food concessions, an arts and crafts show, business expo, live musical entertainment, and carnival rides and games. In addition, there will be educational poultry-related displays, a baby chick display, children's activities and a classic car show.
The chicken festival began in Georgetown in 1948 as a way to showcase Delmarva's poultry industry and moves through towns and cities in the region.
