Jennifer and Barry Shay
LEWES, Del.- Delaware State Police arrested a Rehoboth Beach couple last week after police said an investigation revealed that the couple had stolen money and valuables from a woman living at an assisted living home in Lewes.
Police said 49-year-old Jennifer Shay worked with the Cadbury Assisted Living at 17000 block of Cadbury Circle where she befriended a 71-year-old female victim who lived there.
Investigators said that beginning last October, Jennifer began removing silverware and jewelry from the victim's home. Jennifer's husband, 51-year-old Barry Shay, would then take the merchandise to a pawn shop in Rehoboth Beach and receive money in exchange, according to police. Police said that through the course of the next six months Jennifer would write checks to herself on the victim's account totaling more than $13,000.
Jennifer and Berry Shay were arrested on Thursday at their home in Rehoboth Beach and transported to Lewes where they were processed. Both were charged with conspiracy and forgery among several other charges.
They were both arraigned and released on unsecured bonds.
