Convicted Bank Robber Sentenced to 9 Years

BALTIMORE– A Lewes, Del., man was sentenced Monday to nine years in prison followed by three years of supervised release after being convicted of three bank robberies.

U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake sentenced Robert Joseph McLaughlin, 39, of Lewes, in connection with two robberies in Salisbury, Md., as well as a third in Seaford, Del.

Court documents show that on Dec. 3, 2009, McLaughlin entered the Citizens Bank on Sussex Highway in Seaford and ordered the tellers to fill a bag with money before leaving. He allegedly left with $1,763.

In the second incident, McLaughlin allegedly entered the Shore Bank located at 1503 S. Salisbury Blvd. in Salisbury on Feb. 27, 2010. Court records show he left briefly but returned after having changed his clothes and demanded money from the teller. He left with $3,990 from the bank drawer.

According to court documents, McLaughlin also robbed the Farmer's Merchant Bank of Willards located at 102 Milford St. in Salisbury on Aug. 3, 2010. Using a note that demanded the tellers fill a bag with money, he left with $1,785.

As part of his sentence, McLaughlin will also be required to pay $7,448 in restitution.
