Va. Rabbit Owner Convicted of Animal Cruelty

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP)- A Virginia Beach woman is banned from owning or possessing animals in the city following her conviction on cruelty charges.

The charges stem from the seizure of nearly 100 rabbits from 60-year-old Tegwen Davis' home in March.

A Virginia Beach General District Court judge found Davis guilty on Monday of three animal cruelty counts and two counts of unlawfully disposing of a dead animal.

In addition to the ban, Judge Pamela E. Hutchens gave Davis a 3-year suspended sentence and fined her $3,400.

A veterinarian testified that four rabbits seized from Davis' home had to be euthanized. The others were emaciated, dehydrated and infested with fleas.
