NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware has released the 2012 schedule for its field hockey squad.
Coach Rolf van de Kerkhof has arranged a schedule including five teams that appeared at last years' NCAA tournament, and another seven that were selected in the regular season Top 20 poll. The Blue Hens will face off with Old Dominion, Michigan, and Princeton, among others.
Delaware will also take on North Carolina, who was the NCAA national runner-up in 2011. The Tar Heels also finished last season ranked No. 1 in the National Field Hockey Coaches' Poll.
Kerkhof says the tough schedule is part of an attempt to rebuild the team. He will be starting his second year with the squad, after leading them to a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament in 2011. The new schedule has been referred to by some as one of the most ambitious in school history.
Season tickets are available for $30, and $17 for those under age 17 or over age 60. They can be purchased by phone at 302-831-2257 or by visiting the UD Season Ticket Office, located in the Bob Carpenter Center.
